Course Outline

This diversity and equality training course is ideal for individual managers and teams. This sexual orientation diversity training course will give you an in-depth overview and understanding of the key issues relating to sexual orientation and diversity in the workplace.

It will explore common issues; look at different forms of direct and indirect discrimination, bullying and harassment. It will demonstrate why creating a culture of respect is important to the success of your organisation, your team and your colleagues; regardless of sexual orientation.

Our diversity course is practically based and highly interactive. We will utilise our ground-breaking sexual orientation DVD content and facilitate a range of learning methods including exercises, tutor input, plenary discussion, group work and case studies.

  • Have a greater understanding of discrimination, bullying and harassment in the workplace
  • Appreciate the business benefits of respecting everyone; not just lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) employees

  • Learn about the issues some LGB employees face in the workplace

  • Understand management’s responsibilities and liabilities for their staff, how they can minimise stress and be genuinely inclusive
  • Understand what it means to respect LGB employees
  • Have the ability to reflect and question our own behaviour
  • Understand the meaning of homophobia and the different types of workplace bullying
  • Be able to spot signs of stress and how to deal with it
  • Realise the damaging effects of stereotyping, unconscious bias, patronisation and making assumptions
  • Identify ways to ensure that confidential information is handled sensitively
  • Be able to identify the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour in the workplace
  • Know the meaning of direct and indirect discrimination
  • Be able to support colleagues who ‘come out’ at work
  • Prepare a personal action plan for transferring the learning into the workplace

No pre course work is required for this diversity and equality training; the course aims to change attitudes and understanding of diversity.
